Davide Somma
Galactic Davide Somma illustration for The Square Ball’s 2019 Summer Special — one part football nostalgia, one part space opera overreaction.
About the Project
Created for The Square Ball’s 2019 Summer Special, alongside a Leyendecker-inspired Molenaar and a manga fight between Garry Monk and David Wagner.
The main feature in the issue was the Cellino car park incident, but this piece took a different route: Davide Somma reimagined as something a bit more cosmic and melodramatic than strict realism really allows.
April, 2019. Also includes the yellow Somma variant, because one version of a galactic footballer felt stingy.
A curated image run built to let the print object, surface, and detail breathe on the page.
Open any figure to inspect surface, print detail, and framing more closely without losing the overall sequence. Motion plates play inline at full page size.
Issue spread
Supporting plates from the same Square Ball issue, grouped as a compact magazine display rather than full-page interruptions.
Sequence note
The closing plates are intended to read like a print-room pass: object, surface, and image held in sequence rather than treated as isolated uploads.
